College Library Policy

Introduction

The library at Pioneer College aims to provide an environment that promotes academic success, research, and intellectual growth. This policy outlines the guidelines and expectations for students using the college library facilities and resources.

Library Access

  • Library Membership: All registered students at Pioneer College automatically have library membership and are entitled to access library resources and services.
  • Library Hours: The library operates during specified hours that are communicated to students. It is important for students to be aware of the library's opening and closing times.
  • Identification: To access library services, students are required to present their valid student identification card at the library entrance.

Conduct and Behavior

  • Noise Level: Students are expected to maintain a quiet environment within the library. Conversations should be conducted in low tones, and the use of headphones is encouraged when listening to audio or video materials.
  • Cell Phone Usage: Students are required to put their cell phones on silent mode when in the library. If a call or message needs to be answered, students should step outside the library to avoid disrupting others.
  • Respect for Others: Students should be considerate of others in the library and respect their need for a conducive study environment. Engaging in disruptive behavior, such as loud conversations, inappropriate language, or disrespectful activities, is strictly prohibited.
  • Care for Library Materials: Students are responsible for handling library materials with care. Books, journals, and other resources should not be defaced, marked, or damaged in any way. Food and drinks are not allowed near library materials to prevent spills and damage.

Borrowing Materials

  • Borrowing Privileges: Students are permitted to borrow library materials based on the borrowing privileges determined by their student status. Details about the loan periods, renewal policies, and borrowing limits can be obtained from the library circulation desk or the library website.
  • Overdue Materials: Students are expected to return borrowed materials by the due date. Overdue materials may result in fines or temporary suspension of borrowing privileges until the materials are returned or fines are cleared.
  • Loan Regulations: Students are responsible for the library materials they borrow. Lost or damaged items must be reported immediately to the library staff, and appropriate fees may apply for replacement or repair.

Use of Library Technology

  • Computer Usage: The library provides access to computers for academic and research purposes. Students should adhere to the computer usage policies, including restrictions on accessing inappropriate and illegal content.

Policy Violations and Consequences

  • Policy Violations: Non-compliance with the library policies may result in disciplinary action, including warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent revocation of library privileges, depending on the severity and frequency of the violations.
  • Appeals: Students have the right to appeal any decision regarding policy violations. The appeals process, including the submission of appeals and the review procedures, will be communicated by the library administration.

Policy Review and Communication

Pioneer College Library Policy for students will be regularly reviewed to ensure its effectiveness in providing a supportive learning environment. Any updates or changes to the policy will be communicated to students through various channels, such as the library website, email, and notice boards located within the library premises.
